100th annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research

MATTAWAN, MI April 18, 2009:
At the 100th annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research
(AACR) being held April 18-22 in Denver, Zheng "Jim"Wang, PhD, Director of
Molecular Imaging and Senior Study Director at MPI Research, will present a
poster on the use of a new imaging agent for earlier tumor detection:
Micro/PET/CT Evaluation of 64Cu Labeled Bevacizumab as a New Tumor
Early Detection Probe for PET Imaging in Breast Cancer Orthotopic and
Bone Metastasis Model Compared with 18FDG (abstract # LB-281)
Session title: Late-Breaking Research: Tumor Biology 2
Session schedule: 8 a.m. – noon
Session location: Poster board 10 in Hall B-F, Poster section 14
Dr.Wang and his group are the first to show that a compound made up of the
anti-cancer drug, bevacizumab, and 64Cu (a radioactive copper nuclide) is superior
to the gold standard 18FDG in detecting early tumors in animal models. Because
it uses different biological mechanisms compared with 18FDG, bevacizumab can
detect a broader range of tumor types, can be useful in measuring tumor size,
can be of value in monitoring the therapeutic impact of treatment, and may even
help the radiation oncologist determine clinical treatment volume.
MPI Research provides comprehensive drug development services for the
pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, animal health, and chemical industries.
