MATTAWAN, MI January 6, 2006:

In 2005 MPI Research invested $25 million in our facility, creating 100,000 ft2 of added laboratory space. In response to further increased demand for MPI Research services, the Board of Directors recently approved another $50 million for 300,000 ft2 of new construction to come online in 2006. Over the course of 2005, available animal rooms at the facility grew from 250 to 375 and will expand to over 450 in the next twelve months.

While expansion of the MPI Research facility is vital to meeting the “on time” research demands of our Sponsors, we understand that quality people are the heart and soul of any research facility. This is certainly one of the greatest accomplishments for MPI Research in 2005 with the number of total full time employees growing to over 900 as of this writing. Early in 2006 we will pass a historic milestone with the hiring of our 1000th employee. As impressive as the sheer numbers are, the quality and backgrounds of new staff members are even more so. Over 70% of the over 200 technical and support staff hired in 2005 are degreed professionals recruited from major universities, contract research organizations and pharmaceutical companies.

MPI Research also had a banner year in recruiting 40 leading scientists. Included in this number were eight Study Directors (3 Ph.D., 4 M.S.), nearly 20 Analytical Scientists (4 Ph.D.), three D.V.M., ACVP Pathologists and one new Clinical Veterinarian. One of the most exciting aspects of these new members of our team is they largely come from the CRO industry and leading pharmaceutical companies. Sources of these outstanding scientists include; Lilly, Pfizer, Novartis, Sierra Biomedical and Quintiles. The experience and expertise of these additions to the MPI Research team will help ensure that we continue to meet the needs of our Sponsors now and well into the future.
