- MPI Research Proactive in Response to Recent FDA Assessment of Abuse Potential of Drugs
On January 26, 2010, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a key draft guidance document, Guidance for Industry Assessment of Abuse Potential of Drugs. When finalized, this guidance will represent the FDA’s current position on the abuse potential of drugs. Noteworthy within the document, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) specified in the Guidance for Industry S7A Safety 471 Pharmacology Studies for Human Pharmaceuticals and in FDA regulations, 21 CFR 472 part 58, now also apply to abuse potential studies in animals.
- Lean Six Sigma Initiative at MPI Research

- Medicilon/MPI Preclinical Research-Shanghai Receives AAALAC Certification
Medicilon/MPI Preclinical Research-Shanghai has been recognized as an accredited International Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) facility. This accreditation further underscores the company's commitment to quality research. The AAALAC initiative was led by Lijie Fu, PhD, Executive Vice President of Operations, a national returnee with substantial industry, scientific and CRO experience.
- Strategic Collaboration with Kineta
MPI Research announced that it will be collaborating with Kineta, Inc, a Seattle-based biotechnology company, in advancing their promising autoimmune drug development program. This collaboration will enable phase one human trials to begin in 2010. Recently named one of the nation's top ten most promising biotechnology companies by Pharmaceutical Executive (August 2009), more information about Kineta is available at www.Kinetabio.com.
- MPI Research Toxicologist Serves in Multiple Thoughtleader Roles
Ali S. Faqi, DVM, PhD, DABT, Director of Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology (DART) and Senior Principal Study Director at MPI Research, has accepted an appointment to serve on the Board of Scientific Counselors Computational Toxicology Subcommittee (BOSC), a Federal Advisory Committee under the jurisdiction of the US Environmental Protection Agency. Dr. Faqi, who has published extensively and held many leadership roles in professional organizations, will serve as a BOSC member for one year. He will provide expert judgment on such topics as the quality and type of proposed research programs, excellence in research management practices, and the use of peer review in promoting sound science.
- Change in Director of Research at MPI Research
Jim Laveglia, PhD, has passed the baton of Director of Research at MPI Research to Tina Rogers, PhD, MBA, DABT, formerly the company's Discovery Center Director. In his new role as Executive Vice President, Dr. Laveglia will focus on business development and will continue to serve on the company's Corporate Management Team and Board of Directors.
- MPI Research Announces Discovery Center Updates
The MPI Research Discovery Center, operational since September 1, 2008, is moving forward with plans to transfer its services to new quarters. Located about 12 miles from corporate headquarters in Mattawan, the Discovery Center facilities will be located in downtown Kalamazoo, MI. The new accommodations will house customized state-of-the-art laboratories for all the discovery service offerings of the company, including Experimental Therapeutics (in vivo, molecular and cell-based assays), Experimental Surgery, Molecular Imaging, Drug Metabolism, Pharmacokinetics, and Immunology. Migration of these services to the new facilities will be completed over the next six to twelve months.

- MPI Research Honors the 30th Anniversary of GLPs
Please join MPI Research in recognizing June 2009 as marking the 30-year anniversary for GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) regulations within the preclinical research industry. Establishing in the 1970s by the US FDA in the Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR Part 58), GLP Regulations were created to assure the quality, integrity, and reproducibility of the research data used to support preclinical laboratory studies. They became fully effective on June 20, 1979.
- Juvenile Toxicity Preclinical Testing Webinar
Join Dr. Faqi for a stimulating discussion on key aspects of designing and implementing studies that support the use of drugs in the pediatric population. Historically, this data was often derived from the safety data generated from preclinical studies in adult animals and clinical studies in human adults. However, because of the differences in drug safety profiles between immature and mature organ systems, juvenile animal studies should be considered when identified target organ toxicity in adults is also an organ with significant postnatal development.
- MPI Research Announces Indian Office
MPI Research announced on June 8, 2009 that in addition to its liaison offices currently
established in strategic locations worldwide, it now has an office in India. Until now, the
company has served the Indian biopharmaceutical market through its US-based
headquarters in Mattawan, MI. However, because of the mounting research needs of India's
growing biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, MPI Research is opening an office in
Ahmedabad, India.
- 100th annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research
At the 100th annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research
(AACR) being held April 18-22 in Denver, Zheng "Jim"Wang, PhD, Director of
Molecular Imaging and Senior Study Director at MPI Research, will present a
poster on the use of a new imaging agent for earlier tumor detection.
- Medicilon/MPI Preclinical Research-Shanghai Announces Dean Rodwell as President and Chief Operating Officer
On March 2, 2009, Dean Rodwell joined the joint venture between MPI Research, Mattawan, Michigan, and Shanghai Medicilon, Shanghai, China, as President and Chief Operating Officer. Reporting to the Board of Directors, Rodwell will oversee all of the day to day operations at the company.
- MPI Research Expansion in Kalamazoo

(April 2008) - Medicilon/MPI Preclinical Research Shanghai has announced its newly formed Board of Directors, which has equal representation from the two parent companies. The four
directors include executives William U. Parfet and William Harrison from MPI Research, and Drs. Chun-Lin Chen and Jintao Zhang from Medicilon.

(February 2008) - MPI Research recently
announced two key appointments. Zheng
Jim Wang, PhD, is the Director of Molecular
Imaging and Stefano F. Liparoto, PhD,
is the Director of Immunology, and will
head the company’s Immunoassay
and Immunotoxicology area. As experts
in their fields, the addition of Dr.
Wang and Dr. Liparoto will expand the
capabilities of MPI Research in these
areas that are increasingly important
to the drug discovery development programs

and Shanghai Medicilon Announce Shanghai-Based
Joint Venture
MPI Research and Shanghai Medicilon are pleased to announce a new joint venture to form Medicilon-MPI
Preclinical Research (Shanghai) LLC. Located initially at the Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in Shanghai, China,
the company will open a 50,000ft2 preclinical testing facility in the Chuansha Economic Park in early 2008.
This new facility will meet the regulatory standards set forth by the US FDA and other regulatory agencies
worldwide.

October 21-24 in Brisbane
MPI Research, a global provider of preclinical

at the AusBiotech 2007 National Conference
being held at the Brisbane Convention
and Exhibition Center in Brisbane, Queensland,
Australia from October 21 through October
24. The company will present a half-day
educational seminar, Aiming for Preclinical
Success, on October 21 from 1:30 pm to
5:30 pm on the mezzanine level of the
convention center.
- MPI Research Fills Key Leadership Positions
Two high
level appointments within MPI Research
were recently announced. David
Serota, PhD, DABT, was promoted
to the position of Vice President, Toxicology and Pathology and will also serve
as a member of the company’s senior
management team. Tina Rogers, PhD, DABT, joined the company as the Associate
Director of Research. Both appointments further strengthen the leadership position
MPI Research has earned within the Contract Research Organization (CRO) industry.

including those offered at the Mattawan
