| MPI Research Announces
Leading Cardiovascular Scientist, Craig
January, MD, PhD, Will Collaborate
with MPI Research as Chief Scientific
Advisor for New In-Vitro Safety Pharmacology
Division! |
MPI Research is proud to announce a new
association with leading cardiovascular researcher,
Craig T. January, MD, PhD. Dr. January is
a world-renowned expert in the physiologic
mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmia. His pioneering
research on the role of ion channels in cardiac
disease is globally recognized. In addition,
Dr. January is recognized worldwide as the
developer of the primary cell line used to
evaluate hERG potassium ion channel inhibition
as an indicator of potential cardiac toxicity.
Dr. January’s cell line is utilized
in research laboratories around the world
to screen new drug candidates for potential
adverse cardiac events prior to human or
animal tests. Dr. January is currently Professor
of Medicine and Physiology at the University
of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison, Wisconsin.
Dr. Galen Carey, Director of In-vitro Pharmacology,
commented, ”We are delighted that Dr.
January has agreed to act as Chief Scientific
Advisor to the top notch team of scientists
assembled by MPI Research to staff our new In-vitro Safety
Pharmacology division. Dr. January will advise
and assist the new In-vitro Safety
Pharmacology group in the initial set up
and validation of equipment, and serve as
a resource to enable this group to grow and
provide the kind of in-vitro safety
pharmacology service that our sponsors will
value most. Dr. January will also advise
and assist MPI Research’s newest division
on developing additional ion channel assays
which will have applications beyond cardiac
toxicity prediction; such as vascular and
central nervous system efficacy and toxicity
screening models, and customized individual
assays. Dr. January will assume a strong “hands
on” role in helping MPI Research to
launch and grow what we envision will become
the premier ion channel contract research
laboratory in the industry.”
MPI Research exists to provide comprehensive
non-clinical research that meets the requirements
of pharmaceutical, medical device, animal
health and chemical companies as well as
governmental agencies as we partner together
to bring safer, healthier products to the
world. MPI Research employees specialize
in a wide variety of scientific disciplines
including toxicology, pharmacology, metabolism,
pathology, clinical pathology, reproductive
and developmental biology, veterinary science,
neuroscience, experimental therapeutics,
immunotoxicology, analytical chemistry, computer
science, regulatory science, and statistics.
