MPI RESEARCH expands Experimental Therapeutics capabilities with a nude rat HEPA filtration area.

To compliment our existing ‘clean’ laboratory for nude mice, MPI Research is excited to announce the completion of a new area for immunocompromised (‘nude’) rats. Both the rat and mouse laboratories are supported by a fully equipped cell culture laboratory for the maintenance of multiple human cancer cell lines for use in xenograft studies. In addition, both areas are equipped with the latest High Efficiency Particulate Arresting (HEPA) filtration systems.

At MPI Research, we are constantly evaluating the services we offer our sponsors. The nude rat is an extremely valuable tool in the research setting for human tumor xenograft and tumorigenicity studies. As a leading service provider to the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, we felt it important to offer this service to our sponsors evaluating compounds to treat cancer. Nude rats offer significant advantages over nude mice including the ease of administration of test articles via continuous tail vein infusion, the ability to conduct serial sampling for toxicokinetic evaluations, and organ toxicity assessments.

Dr. James Laveglia, Executive Vice President and Director of Research, commented, “We are excited to be able to offer the nude rat model; a service which is unique in the contract service industry. Dr. Kate Lane, our Director of Experimental Therapeutics, is setting a standard of innovation that we are proud to foster. We are proud of our team and the valuable services we offer the pharmaceutical industry to aid in developing better treatments for these terrible diseases.”

MPI Research exists to provide comprehensive non-clinical research that meets the requirements of pharmaceutical, medical device, animal health and chemical companies as well as governmental agencies as we partner together to bring safer, healthier products to the world. MPI Research employees specialize in a wide variety of scientific disciplines including toxicology, pharmacology, metabolism, pathology, clinical pathology, reproductive and developmental biology, veterinary science, neuroscience, experimental therapeutics, immunotoxicology, analytical chemistry, computer science, regulatory science, and statistics.
