MPI RESEARCH continues to hire a Scientist of Stature. Welcome Jan VanSteenhouse, D.V.M., Ph.D., A.C.V.P., MPI’s new Director of Clinical Pathology

MPI Research is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Jan VanSteenhouse to our illustrious scientific team. Dr. VanSteenhouse comes to MPI from ANTECH Diagnostics in Atlanta, GA where she served as a Senior Clinical Pathologist since 1999. Dr. VanSteenhouse received her D.V.M. from Michigan State University in 1976. After several years in private practice, she completed her Residency in Clinical Pathology at the University of Tennessee in 1986 and was boarded by the A.C.V.P. Dr. VanSteenhouse next completed an NIEHS sponsored, dual discipline Pathology and Toxicology Doctoral program at Colorado State University in 1989. Dr. VanSteenhouse then served with distinction at Louisiana State University from 1989 to 1999 as both an Assistant and Associate Professor of Veterinary Clinical Pathology. During her tenure at LSU, she was awarded several research grants, most notably, the 1992 Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association Foundation Award. She was also awarded the LSU Alumni Association Distinguished Faculty Award in 1995. She has authored over 20 articles in peer reviewed journals, as well as several other articles and a chapter in the “Clinical Textbook for Veterinary Technicians” and made numerous presentations to her peers at scientific meetings.

As Director of Clinical Pathology, Dr. VanSteenhouse is responsible for coordinating interpretation of clinical pathology data in toxicology studies conducted at MPI Research. This includes reviewing the clinical pathology results and correlating the interpretation with in-life and histopathological findings of the study. She will serve as the MPI Research specialist on clinical pathology issues, interacting as necessary with Sponsors and Study Directors in the discussion of study designs. She will also serve as a scientific resource for the clinical pathology laboratory, providing information regarding technical procedures for existing and new assays.

David G. Serota, Ph.D., D.A.B.T., Director of Toxicology at MPI Research commented, “We are very excited to have Dr. VanSteenhouse join our team. I believe it is a strong statement about the quality and standing of MPI Research in the contract research industry that we are able to recruit and retain scientists with the stature of Dr. VanSteenhouse. Our growth over the last several years has created the need for a full time Director of Clinical Pathology. Dr. VanSteenhouse is a strong leader with impeccable credentials; we could not have found a better individual to lead our Clinical Pathology group.”

MPI Research exists to provide comprehensive non-clinical research that meets the requirements of pharmaceutical, medical device, animal health and chemical companies as well as governmental agencies as we partner together to bring safer, healthier products to the world.
