MPI RESEARCH completes new Specialty Surgical Suite!

MPI Research announced today the completion of its new 500 square foot Specialty Surgical Suite. Due to the large number of coronary and peripheral stent and other vascular studies conducted at MPI Research over the last two years, more surgical space was needed to meet sponsor needs. This new suite is equipped to support many different types of minimally invasive animal surgery studies including, but not limited to, vascular devices such as arterial stents.

The suite is equipped with two heated carbon top surgical tables, two fluoroscopes, and highly-trained and dedicated staff members to facilitate high throughput studies. The fluoroscopes are the OEC® 9600 and 9800 models with Ethernet server connectivity allowing images to be captured on DVD for documentation of device placement to support GLP studies. The suite is also equipped with the newest patient monitoring, anesthesia, and ventilator equipment. All major surgical species are supported. The new suite has the capability to be upgraded to also support many other types of minimally invasive surgical studies and medical device evaluations.

Dr. James Laveglia, Executive Vice President and Director of Research, commented, “The completion of this new specialty suite is an important step in the efforts of MPI Research to expand our support of medical device testing. Our sponsors have continuously requested that we expand our capacity to meet their growing needs for device development support, and we have responded. Furthermore, as we anticipate future growth in this area, an additional 1,350 square feet of surgical space is under renovation.”

MPI Research exists to provide comprehensive non-clinical research that meets the requirements of pharmaceutical, animal health and chemical companies as well as governmental agencies as we partner together to bring safer, healthier products to the world. MPI employees specialize in a wide variety of scientific disciplines including toxicology, pharmacology, metabolism, pathology, clinical pathology, reproductive and developmental biology, veterinary science, neuroscience, analytical chemistry, computer science, regulatory science, and statistics.
