a Canine FOB poster at SOT! |
MPI Research is pleased announce that Jill
Wasielewski, Ph.D., a member of our Safety
Pharmacology Team, will be presenting the
following poster entitled, “Development
and Validation of a Canine Functional Observational
Battery (FOB) for use in Toxicity Studies,” poster
number 1286 on Wednesday, March 20, 2002
at the Society of Toxicology Meeting in Nashville,
Tennessee at 8:30 –11:30 am. The need
for, and utility of a robust and yet sensitive
canine screening method for detecting and
providing initial characterization of neurotoxic
and neurofunctional effects is clear. In
response to customer demand for such a model,
we have recently developed and validated
a canine neurobehavioral test battery that
has demonstrated sensitivity to neurofunctional
effects of a variety of pharmacological positive
control articles.
Theodore J. Baird, Ph.D., Study Director
for Neurosciences stated, “It has become
evident that for a variety of reasons, rodent
models may not always be practical to meet
our sponsors’ specific needs for neurobehavioral
testing. As always, our sponsors’ needs
drive our business decisions, and we felt
it imperative to develop and validate a canine
neurobehavioral test battery that will meet
regulatory guidelines for nervous system
safety evaluation. Dr. Wasielewski’s
involvement has been a critical factor in
driving this validation project, and we are
proud to have her as a member of our team.”
MPI Research exists to provide non-clinical
research that meets the requirements of pharmaceutical,
animal health and chemical companies as well
as governmental agencies, as they develop
products for a healthier world. MPI employees
specialize in a wide variety of scientific
disciplines including toxicology, pharmacology,
metabolism, pathology, clinical pathology,
reproductive and developmental biology, veterinary
science, neuroscience, analytical chemistry,
computer science, regulatory science, and
statistics.
